Workers Memorial Day: April 28, 2010

Molecular biologist Becky McClain was awarded $1.37 million by a jury in her suit charging she was infected by a virus at Pfizer.

On April 28, Council 4 will observe Workers Memorial Day to remember those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight for safe workplaces.

Our 2010 Workers Memorial Day ceremony will take place April 28 at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Council 4 Workers Memorial, located right outside our union headquarters in New Britain.

This year we remember three Council 4 members who died on the job: Theresa Foss (Local 818); Donald Nyguard (Local 1183); and Steven O’Brien (Local 353).

On Workers Memorial Day, we not only pray for the dead, but we also fight for the living. In that spirit we have a special guest speaker, former injured Pfizer, Inc. molecular biologist Becky McClain. On April 1, Becky won a whistle-blower lawsuit against the pharmaceutical giant after it fired her for raising concerns about the company’s safety practices.
