Council 4 To Bring Rev. Al Sharpton and Lee Saunders To New Haven

L-R: Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio; the Rev. Al Sharpton; and AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Lee Saunders at a Cleveland rally.

The Reverend Al Sharpton, a noted civil rights leader and president of the National Action Network, will join AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Lee Saunders in keynoting a rally and march for New Haven public service workers on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, located at the corner of College and Elm Streets in downtown New Haven.

Public services and the middle class are under attack in New Haven. Mayor John DeStefano’s has already laid off city workers, including paraprofessionals and police officers, and is threatening more layoffs and privatization of family- supporting jobs.

The Rev. Sharpton and Secretary-Treasurer Saunders have been traveling around the country, speaking out against the assault on public services. Please join us and help send a message that we will not allow politicians like DeStefano to use the economic crisis as an excuse to destroy good jobs in our communities.

Take action and sign our petition to Mayor DeStefano:
