Workers Memorial Day 2012

Every year, on or around April 28, AFSCME and the unions of the AFL-CIO observe Workers Memorial Day to remember those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight for safe workplaces.

Council 4 will mark Workers Memorial Day on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. in front of the Workers Memorial Monument located outside our union hall in New Britain.

This year we will take time out to remember AFSCME Local 1026 member Nicholas Yetishefsky, an employee of the Metropolitan District Commission, who died on the job Oct. 17, 2011.

In addition, the following Workers Memorial Day events are scheduled:

  • Connecticut AFL-CIO Workers Memorial Day Ceremonies
    Saturday, April 28@11:00 AM
    Bushnell Park Workers Memorial, Hartford (near Soldiers and Sailors Memorial)
    In case of rain, the ceremonies will be held in the State Capitol, Room 310
  • Southeastern Labor Council, AFL-CIO Memorial Day Ceremonies
    Saturday, April 28@8:00 AM
    Workers Memorial in Washington Park, Groton (Rain or Shine)
  • L’Ambiance Plaza 25th Anniversary Commemoration
    Fairfield Labor Council, CT AFL-CIO, Fairfield Building and Construction Trades Council,CT Building and Construction Trades Council
