In Memoriam: Dominic J. Badolato

Dom Badolato in 2008.

Dominic J. Badolato, former Executive Director of Council 4 and state legislator, died Sept. 22, 2011 in New Britain. He was 91.

Dom served as our union's Executive Director from 1968-1996 and set the course for Council 4 to become Connecticut's largest and most powerful union.

He also served as a state representative from 1954-1976, championing some of the most progressive labor legislation anywhere in the country. Indeed, Dom's work within both Council 4 and the Connecticut State Legislature resulted in major improvements to minimum wage, unemployment compensation, collective bargaining, and working conditions in general.

Council 4 Executive Director Sal Luciano said:

“Connecticut is much better place for working men and women because of Dom Badolato. Anyone who cares about the history of unions in Connecticut, and the struggles workers faced in their quest for dignity, needs to learn about Dom Badolato. I don't know of any individual who did more to advance the cause of workers in Connecticut than Dom."

Dom also served as Executive Vice President of the Connecticut AFL-CIO, working with leaders such as John Driscoll, Betty Tianti and John Olsen to advance labor's agenda.
