Hundreds of AFSCME members gathered on Capitol Hill demanding that Congress protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid on February 12, 2013.
"The wage gap now is greater than it was in the days of the robber barons. Only unions can bring that back," said Council 4 Executive Director Sal Luciano told AFSCME.TV.
The rally was part of AFSCME's 2013 Legislative Conference, a gathering where over 500 members -- including many from Council 4 -- gathered to organize and strategize at a series of workshops on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), retirement security, privatization, taxes and budgets, attacks on workers rights and immigration fairness.
"We want elected officials to know we are holding them accountable and demanding they stop the assault on workers rights," said Local 562 President Thursa Isaac, whose union workers in our NP-3 adminstrative-clerical state bargaining unit. "We need to show a strong presence in the political arena and let everyone know the Big Green machine is alive, strong and moving forward."
Send a message to Congress: Stop the giveaways that benefit the rich and corporations at the expense of the rest of us.
