Unchain Our Social Security

In New Haven, and dozens of cities across the nation, members of the Alliance for Retired Americans, other senior advocates, union members, and community allies formed human chains to protest cuts to Social Security and other federal benefits that would result from a “chained" CPI.

The "chained" CPI proposal would reduce cost-of-living adjustments and prevent benefits from keeping up with inflation.

Advocates rally against the chained CPI in New Haven.

Under the chained CPI, someone retiring at age 65 would lose nearly $5,000 in Social Security benefits by age 75. By age 85, that person would lose almost $14,000.
